Aero India to Feature Latest 5th-Gen Russian, American Jets Su-57, F-35

With geopolitical friction at its 21st-century high, Russian Su-57 and American F-35 stand poised for an aerial showdown at Aero India. The ghosts of history stir as Russia and the USA, once bitter Cold War adversaries, find themselves on the same side of a geopolitical and defence platform. This time, the battlefield isn’t Berlin or Cuba, it’s the unassuming Yelhanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru.

Even though Russia’s Ukraine invasion revived its bitter rivalry with the US, yet both nations are bringing their cutting-edge aerial warriors to Aero India: the Su-57, Russia’s stealthy predator, and the F-35, America’s multi-role dominator. These 5th-generation fighters are the statements of power, influence, and military supremacy.

With every manoeuvre and every engine roar, the Su-57 and F-35 will be demonstrating their technological prowess and serving as symbols of an intensifying rivalry that stretches far beyond the air show. As the world watches, one question lingers, will this be just an exhibition of power or a preview of future confrontations in global conflict?

Amid speculation about a potential US Air Force withdrawal from Aero India 2025, official sources have confirmed that Washington will indeed participate in the global defence event, scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from February 10-14. Concerns had emerged following the Trump 2.0 administration’s assumption of office in January, but the confirmation puts those uncertainties to rest.

The US Air Force is set to deploy two F-16 and two F-35 fighter jets for the event. But unlike in 2023, these aircraft will be limited to the static display and will not take part in aerial demonstrations at Yelahanka Air Force Station. While the US presence remains notable, it signals a shift in its engagement with the air show this year.

In contrast, Russia is poised to make a strong impact at Aero India 2025, with its Su-57 fifth-generation fighter set to make its flying debut at the event.

The Su-57’s performance in the air display is set to be a standout moment at Aero India 2025, particularly as India continues to assess its fighter jet procurement options for the coming years.

The presence of Russia’s fifth-generation fighter stresses the enduring strategic ties between India and Russia in the defence sector, even as global geopolitical dynamics evolve.

Aero India 2025 will once again serve as a premier platform for advancements in civil, military, and space aviation. The event will feature high-energy aerobatic displays, cutting-edge defence technologies, and industry showcases, with companies from India and around the world presenting their latest innovations.

Exhibition pavilions will spotlight India’s expanding role in defence technology and its commitment to self-reliance. A key focus of the event will be its contribution to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, which aims to strengthen indigenous defence manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports.

Public and private sector Indian defence firms will showcase their growing capabilities in designing and producing advanced military systems, highlighting the country’s progress in self-sufficiency.

Aero India 2025 is also expected to drive global partnerships, facilitating joint ventures between Indian defence companies and international giants like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Dassault Aviation. These collaborations align with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, promoting local manufacturing and technological innovation.

Beyond defence production, the event will emphasise India’s investment in indigenous research and development. From unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to advanced radar systems and missile technology, the exhibition will highlight the country’s expertise in critical defence innovations.

India’s ambition to expand its footprint in the global defence market will be evident, with a strong push for exports of homegrown platforms such as the Tejas fighter jet and advanced helicopters.

With delegations from the US, France, Israel, Russia, and several European nations in attendance, Aero India 2025 will reaffirm its status as a hub for international defence cooperation.
